What Is Aesthetic Dentistry

It improves the appearance of a tooth that is healthy or has already been treated. That is why esthetic work is always preceded by diagnostics and the elimination of tooth decay.

A prerequisite: healthy teeth before esthetics. We perform whitening, bonding and veneers only after all cavities have been treated as part of conservative dentistry and after a professional hygiene session. Whitening teeth with decay or tartar gives an uneven result and may irritate the pulp.

Bonding or veneers: which should I choose?

Composite bonding is usually done without grinding the enamel, in a single visit and at a lower cost; it works well for minor shape corrections and gaps. Porcelain veneers are more durable and more resistant to staining, but they require minimal tooth preparation and two visits. The choice depends on the scope of changes and your expectations, and we decide on it together during the consultation.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Peroxide whitening under a dentist’s supervision is safe for the enamel. The conditions are no active decay and a professional hygiene session beforehand. Temporary sensitivity after the procedure is typical and resolves on its own. Whitening does not change the color of fillings, crowns or veneers.

How long do whitening results last?

The result usually lasts from just over a year to several years, depending on diet and habits. Coffee, tea, wine and smoking speed up the return of discoloration. Regular professional hygiene and limiting staining foods and drinks help the result last longer.

Do my teeth need to be treated before an esthetic procedure?

Yes. Whitening, bonding and veneers are done only after all cavities have been treated and after a professional hygiene session. Esthetic treatment improves the appearance of a healthy tooth; it does not replace conservative treatment or mask disease.
