The Veneer Procedure
Designing Veneers
At ADENT Dental Clinic, we design all types of veneers to address our patients’ smile issues. The new shape and color of teeth restored with veneers can dramatically improve their appearance. A porcelain veneer essentially serves as a new external layer for the tooth, bonded securely to its surface.
Tooth Preparation
Tooth preparation takes place during the first visit. This involves removing the outer layer of the tooth with a diamond bur and sometimes slightly shortening it to make room for the porcelain. This is typically done for veneers that correct shape and color. For feldspathic porcelain veneers, primarily correcting shape, tooth preparation is often unnecessary. An impression is then taken and sent to a prosthetic laboratory. Based on the impression, models are created and scanned. Depending on the technique, veneers are completed within five business days. Prepared veneers are bonded to the tooth surface using specialized composite cements.
Cementing
Cementing veneers is a critical step in the process. The longevity of the veneers largely depends on the quality of the cementing. Each tooth requires about 30 minutes for cementation. Porcelain veneers have a long lifespan, lasting up to 20 years. Their application involves minimal interference with natural teeth and can lead to a spectacular improvement in appearance. These factors, combined with their increasingly affordable cost, contribute to the growing popularity of veneer procedures. Most prosthetic restoration specialists at our clinic perform veneer treatments, and the person planning your first visit will assist you in choosing the right specialist.
