Caries is one of the most common dental diseases, characterized by the demineralization and destruction of tooth tissues caused by acids produced by bacteria. This progressive process can lead to pain, infection, and even tooth loss if not properly treated. The best way to treat caries is through prevention. Preventive care plays a vital role in avoiding cavities and, consequently, serious health issues. To prevent caries, it is essential to maintain proper oral hygiene, including regular and thorough brushing, flossing, and using mouth rinses. Regular check-ups at the dental clinic are also crucial. If preventive measures are insufficient and caries symptoms appear, dental treatment becomes necessary. One of the early methods is remineralization, which can be effective for initial-stage caries. Filling is the most common treatment for caries, involving the removal of decayed tissue followed by filling the cavity with a suitable material. If the pulp has become necrotic, root canal treatment is performed. Extraction is a last resort for extensively damaged teeth.

Caries Treatment Process

The caries treatment process in our clinic includes several stages:

  1. Consultation and Diagnosis:
    • Initial consultation with the patient to assess the condition of the teeth.
    • Clinical examination and imaging diagnostics (e.g., X-rays) to locate and evaluate the extent of caries.
  2. Caries Removal:
    • Mechanical removal of infected tooth tissues using a dental drill.
    • Option to use modern technologies, such as a dental laser, for less invasive caries removal.
  3. Cavity Filling:
    • Filling of the prepared cavity with composite, amalgam, or other suitable material.
    • Shaping and curing the filling material to ensure durability and aesthetics.
  4. Follow-up and Recommendations:
    • Checking the filling for proper fit and alignment with the bite.
    • Oral hygiene instructions and advice on regular check-ups.

Post-Caries Treatment Dental Care

  • Oral Hygiene: Regular brushing at least twice a day, using dental floss and mouth rinses.
  • Avoiding Sugars: Limiting sweets and sugary drinks that contribute to caries.
  • Regular Check-ups: Visiting the dentist at least twice a year to monitor dental health and any potential new cavities.
